Mad World
Madworld
From the episode: Frapp Attack!
Singers: Cleveland Brown
Voices: Mike Henry

"Mad World" is a song by the British band Tears for Fears. Written by Roland Orzabal and sung by bassist Curt Smith, it was the band's third single release and first chart hit, reaching #3 on the UK Singles Chart in November 1982. Two decades later, the song made a popular resurgence when it was covered in a much slower, minimalist style by composers Michael Andrews and Gary Jules for the soundtrack to the movie Donnie Darko in 2001.

The latter version is sung by Cleveland Brown in "Frapp Attack!" as he goes about his humdrum daily existence until he meets the new office girl Tori. When he finds out that Tim ate all of the donuts that she brought, Cleveland would start to pick up the song again until Tori points out the pizza buffet.

Lyrics

All around me are familiar faces

Worn out places, worn out faces

Bright and early for the daily races

Going nowhere, going nowhere

Their tears are filling up their glasses

No expression, no expression

Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow

No tomorrow, no tomorrow

And I find it kinda funny

I find it kinda sad

The dreams in which I'm dying

Are the best I've ever had

I find it hard to tell you

I find it hard to take

When people run in circles

It's a very, very mad world

Mad world
